Kai — character portrait

The maker with plans of his own.

Kai

Kai sees what a broken thing might become. His workshop, his projects and the people who depend on him matter. Helping Arion puts that life at risk. He is a friend with something of his own to lose.

In the workshop, Kai has work to finish. A broken object is a problem with possibilities; a friend arriving in trouble is something much harder to set right. Making things together gives Arion a place in his life, but it does not make Arion the centre of it.

Their friendship lives in games, improvisation and the satisfaction of getting something to work. Those ordinary pleasures become precious when the city begins deciding who belongs in its records. What would you keep of a friend if the world insisted he had never existed?

Kai's story reaches beyond being found or saved. He wants the chance to build a future himself. When he and Arion meet again, recognising a familiar face will not answer every question between them.
